No dog owner wants their pet to need a trip to the animal emergency hospital. Pyometra can be completely avoid by spaying your dog at a young age.

What is the best age to neuter a male dog?

An age of six to nine months of age may be appropriate for neutering or spaying a toy breed puppy or small breed puppy but a larger or giant breed may need to wait until they are near or over 12-18 months of age.

According to several studies, the main behaviors that are affected consistently in male dogs following neutering include: decreased sexual behavior (primarily, mounting behavior), urine marking (depositing urine on objects), and roaming. Also for males, neutering decreases the chances of developing prostatic disease and hernias, and eliminates the chances of developing testicular cancer.
